About ArtPad

ArtPad is an art school/studio in Pendle, Lancashire where everyone is welcome to come along and explore different art materials and techniques.

ArtPad's ethos promotes the enjoyment of creative practices within a professional art studio environment.  ArtPad teaches art through a wide variety of subject and media.  ArtPad aims to engage minds, enhance creativity, promote self-discipline, increase skills and confidence, relieve stress and provide a social experience.

ArtPad offers a wide range of opportunities suitable for all ages, from complete beginners through to artists already practising and established:

For Adults

We believe that anyone can learn to draw; there's no mystery and talent is not a necessity.  All it takes is lots of practice and support from a good teacher. At ArtPad you will learn through demonstrations, step by step guidance, set exercises and an atmosphere of exploration.

Art is a very fulfilling pastime that enables you to relax and de-stress, as you focus intently on what you are creating.  You will be encouraged to experiment through drawing, painting and mixed media, and to challenge yourself and build confidence in your ability.

Treat yourself to one of our half/full day workshops.  Come along and use the space and facilities in the company of other creative individuals and share and exchange ideas. Enjoy the relaxed pace and friendly, productive atmosphere. Workshops at ArtPad are suitable for beginners through to experienced artists.

The human body is a great way of practicing a wide range of concepts such as shape, form and proportion. Life drawing can greatly improve your drawing skills. You don’t get better when learning to play an instrument unless you practice – a lot! It’s the same with drawing, practice makes drawings much better and more rewarding.

ArtPad Staff

Main Teacher:  Dawn Heaps B Ed Hons.

I have enjoyed a flourishing career as a teacher spanning twelve years.  I am the type of teacher who believes strongly that people learn effectively, in a practical subject, through the teacher demonstrating skills, techniques and knowledge and then allowing them to practice through 'doing'.  I am to be found not at the front of a classroom but in amongst the students, helping, guiding and encouraging them in their work. I have patience and care enough about each individuals aspirations to ensure they succeed. I have also enjoyed my role as a practising artist over many years, working in a wide range of media.

“Dawn is an excellent teacher and a highly creative practitioner. She is at the forefront of current practices. Dawns own skills as a practising artist enable her to deliver effective programmes across the field.”

“Dawn is a very talented artist and designer. She is an excellent communicator and teacher of children. She is personable, organised and a dedicated professional.” Teaching Colleagues, Skipton Girls' High School
